Wrought Iron has been a defining point for home owners since the Industrial Revolution. Across the years it has built up popularity amongst ever increasing home owners. It used to be that Wrought Iron was used for Fencing and gating securing the homes of the Rich, with ever increasing elaborate artistry used in the designs to make them.
In modern times, while Iron is still used, a growing portion of metalwork today is Steel or Aluminium.
There are still many pros to using Iron, but with an equal number of cons.
For example, while Iron is Strong, sturdy and will last for a generation if kept well. the downsides are that if it scratches without being repaired straight away, it will rust and eventually decay, weakening the Metal. It is also a lot heavier and more expensive to buy and to install.
Iron Fencing comes in multiple forms. This may either be wrought iron, which is ductile, durable and can be hammered into decorative patterns and shapes when it's hot, or the more affordable cast iron, which is of low ductility and quite brittle.
Cast iron can also produce beautifully complicated shapes, but these are created through the use of moulds of compressed sand rather than hammering, which can damage the iron at a molecular level (Something to note).
Aluminium on the other hand is Lighter and easier to install. It can't be welded so is secured with either bolts or braces. It comes in Panels or Tubes and will stand the test of time.
Steel fencing is a versatile form of fencing that can be used for a variety of purposes, from decorative additions to a garden or providing privacy and security for your home or business.
They don’t need a touch up every year with weather resistant varnish to make sure they don't rot and decay, they don’t get knocked down easily. They can also go directly into the ground due to their galvanised material.
If you're unsure. We can help you decide which would be best to suit the over style and appearance of your Garden.
When we initially arrive there was no boundary between the two houses, they both shared the same walkway to their back gardens and doors. We put up a nice Panel Fence to replace the old which was falling over. It really gave definition to their gorgeous countryside Garden that backed off into fields.
When transforming our Clients overgrown Garden (by hand) into a sleek Featured space covered in stones, we cleaned up their big Iron Stags. A thoroughly enjoyable Project.
